Growing and tending a garden is like growing and tending a yoga practice. Both evolve over time through an organic process of balance and harmony with nature from roots deeply imbedded in the earth. These roots form a strong base from which to rise and stretch into the light. Like the day lily, the yogi arises from an ancient, sacred process wholly dependent on the earth’s generative powers so that we may reach full potential of beauty and presence. We and the lily open, unfold, drink deeply of life, breathe, and trust our inner compass to take us Home.
This is the time of the day lily...
She works for an entire year for one day of life.
And in the fullness of time, she splits herself out of her tightly
held seams and bursts forth with enormous beauty and grace.
She searches for the sun and with blinded eyes looks heavenward and smiles hugely into its lavish illimitable light
for one day and one day only.
And if it rains when her time is full?
Well, she splits herself out anyway and smiles hugely into the
pewter sky,
And she drinks deeply of what is and drips wetly back into the
earth for her one day and one day only.
She is, after all, the essence of presence.
